Hundreds of passengers nationwide have been stranded following the strike embarked by Dana Air pilots.

A source at the airport who spoke to The Punch said: “The strike started this morning and passengers that were supposed to travel this morning are stranded,” adding that the pilots were protesting the non-payment of their salaries.

According to the source, the airline had continued to sell tickets to passengers earlier on Thursday, May 26, in the hope that the issue would be resolved.

The strike has however grounded normal flight operations. It was gathered that the airline has, started making refunds with some passengers booking flights with other airlines.

At the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, announcements were made intermittently to communicate the development to customers waiting to board flights, Premium Times reports.

Kingsley Ezenwa, the spokesperson for Dana Air, said the airline has paid all salary arrears. The dispute, according to him, is as a result of a delay in the payment of an allowance, which the airline promised the pilots on its own volition.

Meanwhile, scores of passengers were left stranded at the general aviation terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos on Wednesday, April 20.

The Aviation Union stopped the operations of Arik Air Nigeria, over a large debt of N12.5billion to Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria. The union closed down the airline’s operations after a yearlong talks failed.
